The 100th SwimStar instructor Sven Mehl.
Last weekend the 100th SwimStar instructor got his SwimStar Certificate in Hamburg. It was the young (23) Sven Mehl who parallell with finishing his medical studies decided to upgrade his swim knowledge by learning the SwimStar teaching methods. Sven who will go in to his practical year now enjoys swimming and has participated in SwimStars camps and courses the past year. – “I will be busy working as a MD the next years but I feel that each child has the right to learn to swim and with the SwimStar method I found a way to teach the children correct techniques in a playful and fun way. I will, despite my busy schedule, keep on teaching. It is so rewarding and fun!”

Of course it would be nice to stand here again in August but just being a part of the World Championships in Göteborg is fantastic!
Back in to training again after a chaotic week with too many other things to do. Well, it would be nice to stand on to of the award podium in August but then again; I do not want to stress myself to death doing it
. I want to go to Göteborg, swim and have fun!
Despite all, the training went well today. I did a typical Glen program:
200m Free/Back. 200m Double Arm Back/Breast. 8 x 25m Breast (45″). One strokedrill, one speed 16″-17″. 4 x 50m Breast kick (1.05″) 44″-45″. 2 x 2x 25m + 50m Breast pull with fly kick. Fins & Paddles (30″-1.15″) 14″-15″ & 32″-33″. 100m easy. 8 x 50m (60″) one breast 90%, one freestyle 75%. Times: breast 35″-35,5″-35″-36″. Free 33″-34″-34″-33″. 4 x 100m Breast kick. (2.05″) 1.40″-42″. 200m breast/Free with fins & Paddles. 100m easy/technique.
Solid strong swims. Three months to go.
Looking foward to swim in Göteborg and meet all of you there!!!

The Olympic Rings
After the successful introduction of Triathlon and Open Water swimming at the Olympics Masters swimming will be on the Olympic program from 2016 in Rio says a spokesperson yesterday in Lausanne after a 3 hour long meeting between IOC and FINA. The two organisations has agreed on introducing the more and more popular Masters swimming in to the Olympic program and now just details has to be decided. Decided is that Masters swimming will follow the ordinary swim program and that 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke and 50m breaststroke will be added to the program. It is not clear yet if the younger swimmers also will have the 50m races on their program.
The spokesperson: We have followed Masters Swimming for a while now and have seen how it has grown in popularity. Swimmers like Dara Torres, Mark Foster and Therese Alshammar have shown that you can still swim fast even if you have turned 30 or 40 years old and we see this as an important trend in the world. A trend that we in the Olympic movement want to be a part of. We will have to do some adaptations in the rules so that he first age group at the Olympics will be 40 years.
The General Secretary of the 2010 Göteborg World Masters Championships Ingmar Lundström says that it is difficult to estimate the impact this decision will have on Masters swimming world wide but he is sure that the interest in the Championships this summer on the Swedish westcoast will expand and that more than 15.000 swimmers now will enter the championships instead of the predicted 7.000.
