It is  not only about winning and to our SwimStars Swimcamps swimmers from all levels are welcome to join and train. But every other year the World Masters Championships take place and we are of course very proud when swimmers who have been training at our camps the last years do well. And this year they did better than well. They swam fantastic! Congratulations! More than 20 World Championships titles, World records, Silver and Bronze medals and so many great swims and personal best from so many of “our” swimmers. It is too many to mention but for those who maybe didn´t win a medal but still swam good: Great job! Hope you had a fun experience in Göteborg and training with us in preparing for the Championships! The World Champions are our role models but they need you as much as you need them. A team consist of memebers of all ages and levels. That is what makes the team strong and fun! And I am sure that all camp members have learned something from our Camps this year – I know for sure that I have learned a lot!

Fit for Fun Triathlete Alexander happy after Hamburg Triathlon

July 24th, 2010

Fit for Fun triathlete Alexander with coach Glen.

Fit for Fun triathlete Alexander with coach Glen.

Vielen Dank Glen.

Gruss Alexander

Instant success after Tenerife Camp!

July 5th, 2010

Only one week after Swimstars Swim Camp on T3, Tenerife some swimmers took the advantage of all the good training and technique work and swam new best times in their home countries. In France Salima Bouyad (50) won 6 titles at the French Masters Championships winning 100m-200m-400m-800m Freestyle, 200m IM and the 3km Open Water. The 200m freestyle and 200m IM were new best times for Salima who also took the SwimStar Instructor licence on Tenerife. In Hamburg 2 x  IronMan participant Rebecca Goldbach swam new best times in, for her, the short distances 50m Free (31,09) and 100m Free (1.07,05) at the 26th Poseidion Traditional swimfest.

Marco Koch visit Swimstars stand and swims poolrecords in Dillenburg

May 5th, 2010

Marco Koch, the young worldclass swimmer who broke the European record in the 200m breast last summer

Marco Koch, the young worldclass swimmer who broke the European record in the 200m breast last summer

My “trainingpal” from T3, Tenerife in December  Marco Koch swam really well in Dillenburg last weekend. 28,9 in 50m breast, 1.02,17 in the 100m breast and 2.16 in the 200m breast – good solid times this early in the season. And the way he swam it was very impressing, especially the 100meter where he only used 14 strokes the first 50 meters and 21 strokes the second 50meters. I is always interesting to watch a young talent like this and Marco and I had some really good talks on training, technique and racing. Exactly what is a secret. :) But we both agreed on how crucial it is to learn a proper swim technique as early as possible and this is why the work with Swimstars is so important!

Sometimes middle distance swimmers need an extra push!

Sometimes middle distance swimmers need an extra push!

It is amazining what a difference one week training in the sun can make! Salima Bouayad broke the French record in the 400m freestyle after the February camp on Tenerife and Tanja Engels swam an European record over the same distance with a 5.02,09! Both swimmers trained together on T3 and swims in the same agegroup (50-54).  Congratualtions!!! And keep up the good work for World Masters!

Margit Ohlsson swims 2.56 in 200 Backstroke, 1.20,34 in 100m and 36,58 in the 50m Back at 65 years of age! 3 World Records!

Online swimmer Margit Ohlsson (65) brakes 3 World Records in backstroke swimming a  2.56 in the 200m Backstroke, 1.20,34 in the 10om Back and 36,58 in the 50meter Backstroke and this at an age when most of us are thinking of retirement!  But not Margit!

Margit, who has  been training online for Glen Christiansen for 10 years said; ” I wanted to try something new this year to see if I could get fast again in the 3 backstroke events  and Glen planned a totally new training for me. I was a little worried if it was going to work, after all I´m a 65 but then again I trust Glens coaching and this time I am really, really suprised!

I never thought I would swim this fast!” I am so happy.” Now I am looking foward to Glens Camp in Göteborg in May  and maybe the one on Tenerife in June.

World-European-Nordic and many national records at Copenhagen Open

November 7th, 2009

Happy with New Records in Copenhagen; Glen and Elisabeth Ketelsen

Happy with New Records in Copenhagen; Glen and Elisabeth Ketelsen

Except for the records that I swam in the 50m (30,91) and 100m breast (1.08,56) there were many great swims and Swedish, Danish and Norwegian records in Copenhagen today. The most impressive swim was probably the  World Record by USG in the 200m freestyle relay in the youngest age group with a time of 1.31,30! The times 23.15 (by Anders Kilen, 34, also that a record)- 23,15 – 22,54 – 22,46 is also impressive at any national or international swim meet. Elisabeth Ketelsen,66, is always good for a record in backstroke and this time she smashed the European record in the 50m back with a 40,19 and the Scandinavian record in 100m freestyle with a 1.15,29. The six year younger Margareta Rainer swam an impressive 1.09,92 and fantastic Susanna Rosén (46) almost broke the minute in the 100 freestyle! The Copenhagen Open is the most popular Masters competition in Scandinavia. The reason is not the pool, the pool is actually not that impressive with its 6 lanes, slippery walls and crowded pool area. No, the atmosphere is great. The organizers really tried to keep up with all the records being set with playing music and announcing with enthusiasm. But the real secret to the success of the meet is that it is a 1 day meet and they throw a great party on Saturday night after the meet. People actually start partying before the last race is swum and continues all night long without having to worry about tomorrow. Myself I cancelled the party this year; I´m just happy that I got a chance to swim fast again this year and that my old swimmers from USG cheered me on so strong. Thank You!

Rowdy Gaines Masters swimmer of the month!

October 30th, 2009

Rowdy Gaines, a true american hero!

Rowdy Gaines, a true american hero!

23,28 and 51,61 are rather descent times in the 50 and 100m freestyle for a man. Ok, I know that there is one or two women now a days that swim that fast but it is still times that millions of young swimmers around the world dream of swimming.
The man that just swam those times has swum faster, in fact, he has won 3 olympic golds! But that was 25 years ago!!! Today Rowdy Gaines is 50 years old, a proud father of 4, TV sport commentator and working for Limu Co. who promotes Rowdys Kidz, a charitable program for children and swimming. Rowdy is the world best promoter for the sport swimming, ask me I know; I worked with Rowdy several years in Japan and on Hawaii. He is not only a really fantastic swimmer, he is also friendly and nice to everyone he meets, willing to share is experience and knowledge without tiring. I learned a lot from him during those years and it is an honour to select him as World Masters Masters swimmer of the month. 51,61 in the 100m freestyle! Who thought that would be possible?!?! Thank you Rowdy for inspiring me and swimmers all over the world!
